Inline Slider or Lift and Slide Doors? - We have both covered!
When looking for a new set of sliding doors, you may have come across the different types of sliding operations but what is the difference?
The most common system you will come across when it comes to sliding patio doors is the inline slider.
In multiple panel configurations, the doors sit on rollers, and when you pull the handle, you will pull the door along its track. For properties that only require normal to large sized panes, this is the perfect mechanism as the door panes will glide smoothly when opening and closing. It can sometimes be found that heavier panes can be more difficult to open with this mechanism, as they require a little more manual effort to operate.

Lift & Slide Patio Doors
The lift & slide method of operating the sliding door system was possibly driven by the frequent need for larger glass panels. These doors sit directly on the track, where the handle must be rotated around 180 degrees to ‘lift’ the door onto the rollers, to then ‘slide’ open.
This track system allows for the door to be set in a fixed position, where the panels cannot be moved accidentally. This makes them particularly useful in homes with small children.
The lift and slide mechanism also allows the sliding doors to achieve an impressive maximum sash weight of up to 300kg per door leaf!

Upgrade to Solar Glazing
Consider solar glazing for your new aluminium sliding doors, particularly if it is South facing and if the glazed area is large. We recommend COOL-LITE SKN 176 II from Saint Gobain, however there are comparable performing brands. It will help to create a more comfortable room by reducing overheating and the need for costly air conditioning. At the same time noticeably reducing excessive heat loss, the glass has an outstanding U-value of 1.0 W/m2K. The third quality it has is the glass is 6.8mm laminated. It therefore is high security with the additional element of the lamination.
